Alex is a London based photographer and visual artist born and raised in Greece. His work, which is situated between Art and Fashion photography is influenced by the virility of Greek and Roman sculptures while wears the colour palette and shades of renaissance aesthetic.
Portrait and fashion photography is his passion as through this he can express his artistic modality of vision. Having a surrealistic approach to the final pictorial result, Alex's interest in photography grew more graphical. He does not interesting much in representing the real but in image making and experimenting with image manipulation. He likes playing around with the possibilities of photography, to challenge and discover new potentials for the medium from both perspectives, the photography as a process and post production.
Artistically Alex is exploring the male gaze when both spectator and subject are males. With his recent work he is visually questioning predominant constructs of masculine representations. Also, he is investigating the gaze from the perspective of distinguishing element between queer/non-queer people. Furthermore, he is seeking out non-conforming tropes for visual representation of ideas around mental health, equality, human behaviour and surrealistic representation of ordinary life.
Alex’s interest in photography began when he was a young. Known as ‘the one who takes the best pictures,’ Alex would use his Kodak instamatic camera for taking family pictures and personal portraits.
Throughout transcendental experimentations, Alex has sought out ideas and influences not only for well composed and appropriately lit imagery, but also powerful enough to communicate his ideas.
The fundamentals in his photographic practice came through experimentation and self-study, a process which helped him to develop his own intuitive approach to photography. However, Alex had always been keen to gain formal and vocational education in order to become a beneficiary of the knowledge and the experience of photography experts. Ha has been able to develop his knowledges in photography academically by studying Art and Design in Walsall College and in London College of Contemporary Arts; Alex currently is studying Art Photography in Westminster School of Arts.
Distinctive elements in his pictures are the strong contrast and dramatic effects as well as his personal artistic approach that is a result of research before the shooting and the postproduction.
